Job Description

Position Summary
The Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing local and wide-area networks, core systems, and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues. In addition, this role is responsible for organizing highly complex activities for IT implementation of infrastructure project initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day management of server systems and network infrastructure.
  • Design, build, configure, implement, maintain and provide support of Cisco, VMware, SAN Storage, Microsoft Windows server systems and backend business applications.
  • Manage and support internet facing infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, maintain and test server hardware, handle all phases of migrations and upgrades.
  • Support anti-spam, web filtering and remote access solutions.
  • Identify and script solutions for efficiency and to proactively improve the corporate infrastructure.
  • Develop, implement and follow system standards, policies and procedures.
  • Provide 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotational basis.
  • Maintain awareness of and evaluate forward looking technologies.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure diagrams and documentation.
  • Ongoing knowledge sharing and peer training.
  • Act as an escalation point for matters concerning server and network infrastructure.
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop client solutions.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of direct engineering and design experience expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, secure, scalable  applications and systems, with fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery.
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills needed to team well with peers, customers, PMO project managers, and vendors.
  • Cisco, Juniper, VMware, Citrix, SharePoint, Lync, BES, Dynamics GP.
  • Active Directory 2003/2008, MS Exchange 2007/2010, PowerShell, Terminal Services, Backup Exec, MPLS, VoIP, QoS.
  • Group Policies, Security configuration and OS patching.
  • Windows Clustering (MSSQL, Exchange) , High Availability, backups and disaster recovery.
  • Systems Inventory and Configuration Management.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot complex issues and provide solutions quickly.
  • Ability to learn new things quickly, and need minimal direction.
  • A high degree of creative ability, analytical and technical skills and independent judgment/decision making.
  • Good strategic planning, project management, organizational and time management skills to handle multiple complex enterprise-scale complex projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate issues, direction, requirements and priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT is highly desired.
