We're looking for a Business Development Manager (India)

The business development (BD) team sits in the Mumbai office and leads in the design of new programs that will increase the reach and impact of TechnoServe India. The BD team is responsible for identifying funding opportunities; developing, leading and strengthening fundraising strategies and tactics; and responding to major contract/grant opportunities.
Position Description: The Business Development Manager position will support all aspects of new business development and be responsible for managing new business opportunities. This will include implementing processes with public and private sector marketing initiatives, and writing, organizing, and producing competitive proposals that would increase the quality and scope of TechnoServe's interventions in India.
Your specific deliverables will include:
  • Create winning proposals: serve as proposal manager and develop proposals in collaboration with project staff and regional country leadership; lead research and design for proposal planning; writing of the proposal and supporting the development of budgets and recruiting of candidates; and, ensuring full and final submission of complete proposal and addenda.
  • Actively cultivate new BD prospects: create and strengthen relationships with public and private donors; liaise with public sector funding agencies, institutional foundations, corporations and other private donors to acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge about their mission, organization, policies, procedures and key decision-makers; and, conduct in-depth donor and industry scans.
  • Guide the proposal development process: develop and manage proposal calendars; facilitate kick-off and review meetings; develop the proposal outline with compliance guidelines; lead or support partner negotiations; manage partner inputs; coordinate questions for donor clients; identify and engage technical consultants as needed; and participate as a key member of the project design team.
  • Build internal capacity in new business development: ensure the adoption of best practices in BD management; provide support and mentorship to junior staff; initiate quality assurance systems; and disseminate best practices.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, development or related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in analytical and strategic roles within the private sector and/or development spheres.
  • Proven track record in successful business or program development design.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills in a multi-cultural environment.
  • The ability to work on short-term assignments with tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks and projects.
  • The ability to work independently, and function effectively as a member of a global team, and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Native fluency English.
  • Travel regionally up to 20 percent of the time.
  • Related work experience and knowledge of the economic, social and development context in India.
  • Direct experience managing donor relations with corporate donors, multinational agencies, and philanthropic organizations. Experience working with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank, and UK Department for International Development (DFID) is particularly valuable.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • An MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in the management consulting industry complemented by broad technical skills in one or more of the following areas: SME, agribusiness, and/ or industry development.
  • Prior experience working in India with in-depth knowledge of the agriculture sector, the corporate social responsibility space, or enterprise development.
