SCOPE OF WORK:
The Caseworker provides direct support to the resettlement team to facilitate the resettlement of newly arrived Refugees, Asylees, Parolees, Special Immigrant Visa holders, and Victims of Trafficking to access services at the Suburban Washington Resettlement Center (SWRC) both through referral and walk-ins.  The Caseworker will ensure that all clients receive high quality services through the Extended Case Management (ECM) Services in accordance with government contracts and IRC internal policies and procedures. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Screen Asylees and other humanitarian immigrants for eligibility, review documents for accuracy and make appropriate referrals to partner agencies in agreement with state guidelines
  • Provide orientation and counseling on Extended Case Management services and information on other relevant services that could help clients become self-sufficient.
  • Provide appropriate referral to other agencies, including referrals to medical screenings, Department of Social Services, ESL classes, Social Security, employment services as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive database of ECM eligible clients.
  • Liaise with other agencies to ensure proper case closure for secondary migrants and clients who have received services elsewhere prior to contacting IRC.
  • Comply with agency policies/protocol and case management best practices.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and workshops as requested by the IRC and partner agencies.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • This position reports to the Casework Supervisor
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Previous resettlement or refugee-related or non-profit experience preferred.
  • Fluency in English and a second language (Arabic, Swahili and Tigrinya languages desirable.
  • Ability to work well with people, specifically refugee clients, local service providers, relatives of refugees, and field professionals.
  • Solid writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment and independently;
  • Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
