Major Responsibilities:
1. Lead the Academic Coaching program
  • Plan Academic Coaching program annual activities in alignment with Education & Learning unit framework
  • Recruit, train and manage a team of 4-8 Social Work student interns to serve as Academic Coaches to support caseloads of up to 25 students each
  • Oversee school enrollment process for all newly arrived youth, coordination with Case Management, schools, families, and advocates.
  • Oversee Academic Coaching program implementation, including intake, client assessment, individualized service planning and implementation, group workshops, and monitoring
2. Manage administration, logistics, and student support services for Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA)
  • Play a lead role in RYSA planning, including logistics, student recruitment and enrollment, staff and volunteer recruitment and hiring, and training
  • Supervise program staff and volunteers (peer mentors, management staff, and student support staff) and program activities
  • Lead the RYSA student support (guidance) team, designing guidance services, overseeing their implementation, and providing counseling as needed; handle disciplinary matters
3. Provide technical assistance to E&L Programs Coordinator regarding Saturday Learning Series and Leaders in Training program implementation, serve as senior staff member on site on Saturdays, as needed

4. Maintain program information and data collection systems in compliance with IRC standards and contractual obligations, contribute to strengthening program monitoring
  • Participate in Youth Program annual logical framework development and implementation, including design monitoring and evaluation activities related to Academic Coaching and RYSA
  • Ensure program participants are properly enrolled and files are up to date
  • Ensure program data is consistently collected and entered in relevant databases accordance with internal program framework and contractual obligations
  • Prepare annual reports on programs supervised for internal purposes, and prepare contractually required reports for programs supervised
Key Working Relationships:
Position Reports to:  Education & Learning Manager
Position directly supervises:   Academic Coaching program interns, temporary RYSA staff, other volunteers & interns
Other Internal and/or external contacts: Must collaborate with the Family Education team, as well as Case Management, Employment, Immigration, New Roots, and other departments, as well as work closely with schools and social and health services organizations.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Social Work degree required, Masters of Social Work strongly preferred
  • Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) certification preferred
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with children and youth, specifically in the context of educational and social programs
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations required
  • Experience working with the New York City Public School system highly desirable
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Fluent in MS Office applications, especially MS Excel
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Organized, responsible, and flexible: able to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure
  • Must be fingerprinted and cleared to work by the NYC Department of Education
  • Fluency in a second language highly desired (such as: Arabic, Burmese, French, Nepali, Spanish)
Working Environment:  Standard office work environment. Regular travel to off-site programs required.
