Description :
The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an Coordinator/Associate to join HRW’s public advocacy work in the New York Office. Working closely with HRW’s program, communications and advocacy staff across the organization, the public advocacy work mobilizes and leverages the influence and networks of external interlocutors in advocacy initiatives that help HRW achieve policy change while deepening the donors' philanthropic investment in HRW. The Coordinator/Associate will support the substantive engagement of HRW’s philanthropic supporters through donor trips, distribution of programmatic content and development and implementation of advocacy initiatives across the HRW community of supporters. This position is based in the New York office and will report to the Senior Director of Public Advocacy.

Responsibilities :

  1. Provide project management and logistical support for HRW’s donor trip program including content development, communications, preparing background material, logistical planning and budget management; 
  2. Support advocacy projects and campaigns, focusing on deployment of donor audiences including background research, social and influencer strategies, and material and meeting preparation; 
  3. Help research and experiment with new models of engagement including rapid response systems to mobilize the network, outreach to external validators and deployment of HRW staff to influential venues. 
  4. Coordinate public and donor participation in digital campaigning and social media engagement on critical human rights issues. 
  5. Creatively contribute to external partnership building; support relationships with pro bono firms, cause marketing opportunities and next generation outreach. 
  6. Help in the drafting, editing and circulation of programmatic updates for external audiences; 
  7. Support live phone briefings with researchers including technical support, evites and preparation; and 
  8. Perform additional administrative support including expense and invoice filing, word processing, photocopying, filing and answering phones. 


Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree in international relations, social sciences, computer sciences, or a related field is required. 

Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant work experience is required.  

Related Skills and Knowledge: 
  1. Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required. 
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. 
  3. Proficiency in social media is highly desirable. 
  4. Ability to work with staff and donors from multiple cultures is required; experience living, working, or studying abroad and navigating other cultures is highly desirable. 
  5. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required. 
  6. Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in locations globally are required.
