Background:
Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.    The IRC opened the sub office in Midland in April 2016 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees.  The office resettles approximately 100-125 refugees per year.
Job Overview/Summary: The resettlement case worker is responsible for implementing the R&P services and Match grant services to newly arrived refugees in the Permian Basin.  Reports to Site Manager and works closely with Resettlement Assistant in delivering services
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure pre-arrival arrangements are made
  • Provide core services, including, but not limited to assistance with social security cards, school enrollment, benefits applications, medical appointments, home visits, and housing
  • Provide cultural orientation to assist clients with successful acculturation
  • Develop individual service plans to establish short term and long term goals as well as identify barriers to self-sufficiency. Assess and monitor client progress.
  • Manage R&P and Match grant funds for clients
  • Connect clients with social services and medical resources in town
  • Provide assessment, orientation and enrollment into the Match Grant program as applicable
  • Maintain case file documentation, maintain financial ledgers, and prepare reports in accordance with the Corporative Agreement
Requirements
  • 4 year degree, with an emphasis in Social Work or an equivalent field of study
  • Self-starter with excellent problem solving skills, proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time efficiently
  • Knowledge of the local social service community desired
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired
  • Detail oriented with the proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area (escorting clients and other activities related to client resettlement needs)
