IREX is looking for expert consultants to provide short-term technical assistance to introduce or strengthen anti-trafficking legislation in sub-Saharan Africa. Technical assistance may take place in-country or remotely depending on country needs.

Location:  Mozambique/Togo/Rwanda/Madagascar/Mauritius [with possibility of remote work]

Summary of Opportunity
IREX is looking for expert consultants to provide short-term technical assistance to strengthen the anti-trafficking legal framework in select sub-Saharan Africa countries. Technical assistance may include discrete assignments lasting from a few days to a few weeks and/or the provision of periodic assistance over the course of several months. Illustrative assignments could include legal assessments, representing IREX at meetings with government officials, and technical assistance to draft/amend anti-trafficking legislation. Depending on country needs, technical assistance may take place in-country or remotely.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Advanced degree (preferably J.D.) with 5-7 years’ experience in legislative drafting/reform
  • Strong knowledge of TIP and international human rights legislation
  • Previous experience or understanding of the human trafficking environment in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills to work effectively with government officials and local NGOs
  • For work in Mozambique, fluency in spoken and written Portuguese
  • For work in Togo and Madagascar, fluency in spoken and written French
  • Previous experience in Mozambique/Togo/Rwanda/Madagascar/Mauritius preferred
