Major Responsibilities:
1. Lead the Saturday Learning Series and Leaders in Training programs
  • Develop program schedules  and curriculum/curriculum resources in alignment with the program designs
  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers and interns to support program administration and implementation
  • Lead/coordinate program implementation on a daily basis, ranging from tutoring to community building activities to college visits and job skills workshops.
  • Manage participant recruitment, retention, attendance, and family engagement
  • Manage program files and databases (enrollment, attendance, outcomes monitoring); maintain accurate and complete records and promote institutional knowledge
  • Collaborate with E&L Manager to develop M&E tools and protocols and ensure program monitoring & evaluation activities are carried out, report on program progress and achievements
  • Ensure budget is utilized effectively and efficiently, conduct budgeting for the programs as needed

2. Co-lead the Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA), with direct responsibility for the academic program
  • Play a lead role in RYSA planning, including staff and volunteer recruitment, hiring, and training
  • Supervise program lead teachers, assistant teachers, and alumni program staff
  • Oversee teachers to coordinate, plan and develop a 6 week culturally and age appropriate curriculum using student centered teaching methodologies for English Language Learners. 
  • Design progress report and report card templates, and direct two parent/teacher conferences.
  • Oversee design and implementation of assessments, student observations, and student feedback surveys/interviews
3. Support internal and external communications, advocacy, technical support
  • Collaborate with department colleagues in efforts to:
    • Ensure timely communication to guarantee coordinated client services and problem-solving
    • Support advocacy initiatives focusing on services for resettled refugee youth
    • Provide technical expertise as needed, especially around supporting educational development of refugee youth and best practices for working with English Language Learners
  • Coordinate and maintain regular communication with program partners (schools, organizations, university tutor sources)

4. Maintain program information and data collection systems in compliance with IRC standards and contractual obligations, contribute to strengthening program monitoring
  • Participate in Youth Program annual logical framework development and implementation, including design monitoring and evaluation activities related to SLS, LIT and RYSA
  • Enroll program participants, ensure program data is consistently collected and entered in relevant databases
  • Prepare internal and external reports for programs supervised

Position directly supervises:  
RYSA’s 6 Lead Teachers, 6 assistant Teachers, volunteers and interns
Indirect Reporting:
Other Internal and/or external contacts: 
Must collaborate with other internal departments, as well as work closely with schools and social and health services organizations

Job Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in education or related field required
  • A minimum of two years teaching English Language Learners, required. Teaching certification and experience in the NYC public school system desirable.
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations required
  • Proven success planning and delivering creative and engaging curricula for beginner to intermediate ELLs
  • Cultural competence and cross-cultural or overseas experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Fluent in MS Office applications, especially MS Excel
